Springfield Holiday Home Tour
Visit decorated areas homes in this year's tour on Saturday, December 11 and Sunday, December 12.
1-5pm, Saturday, December 11 & Sunday, December 12 $20 ($15 in advance)
The tour will include:
1. 3563 Kingsgate Court (Stewart Residence)
Joe and Shirley Stewart invite you to visit their Kingsgate ranch home built in 2010. The home site is on the edge of a wooded area, and since the Stewarts enjoy wild life, it is a perfect place for them. They had the home built as a comfortable place for retirement; as a result this one story ranch with an open concept makes entertaining fun and easy.
The traditional Christmas colors of red and green are seen throughout the home. Each room is decorated differently, but with a "Winter Nature" theme. The sounds of a waterfall fill the patio room that also features a group of winter dressed trees surrounded by a display of woodland animals carved by Greg Henry of Springfield. From this room you can also see the Koi pond that contains fish, turtles and frogs. Please plan to visit and see how winter can exist inside.
2. 3118 Campbell Drive (Cline Residence)
Nick Cline and Chadwick Massie-Cline purchased their home in October after falling in love with its rustic modern charm. When you visit you will immediately notice the huge wraparound porch. The home opens to a spacious foyer with 22 foot tall ceilings and, of course, a 12 foot Christmas tree decorated from top to bottom. The recently remodeled kitchen is perfect for cooking and hosting family for dinner. The warm and inviting hardwood floors run through the first floor. The wood-burning fireplace in the living room is just the touch to give the home that Christmas feel. With as much space as this open home offers, there's plenty of room to decorate for the holiday. The backyard is the ideal spot for entertaining friends. The Nature Stone patio provides plenty of space to sit around the outdoor fireplace. It extends around the heated pool and is surrounded by white vinyl fencing.
3. 915 E. High Street (Campbell Residence)
An avid historian and lover of restoration, Bradley Campbell welcomes you to his home. Originally commissioned and built by Asa Bushnell as a wedding present for his daughter Elizabeth, this Queen Anne "Stick" is one of the more historic homes built in the Springfield area. A young Norwegian architect working in Robert H. Robertson's firm, Joachim Mathisen, designed the house in the Queen Ann style. Completed in 1888, the Harriet Bushnell Dimond House (as it was referred to) was part of the same commission as the Asa Bushnell mansion across the street. Harriet "Hattie" Elmina Bushnell was born August 27,1860, the second child of Asa and Ellen (Ludlow) Bushnell. On November 22,1887 Harriet married Dr. Henry C. Dimond. Now known as simply "915," Mr. Campbell continues to restore this beautiful Queen Anne Stick to her original grandeur. Christmas is the most wonderful time of year, and the home is beautifully decorated for the season. This will be the first time the home has been open to the public in decades, so come on in and see the restoration progress.
4. 3593 Heatherwood Avenue (Martindale Residence)
John & Jill Martindale invite you into their Southern Style Cape Cod home positioned high up on a hill with lamp lit driveway and large welcoming porch. The home was custom built for the McCurdys in 1999. The Martindales purchased their home in June of 2020 and quickly found that it was well suited to highlight many antique family heirlooms as well as new prominent pieces which were procured and fully restored by Norah Gracie antique restoration shop in Harmony. The first floor living space offers a large two-story atrium open to the second floor walkway. The display on either side of the fireplace showcases a variety of eclectic collectibles from worldwide travels such as beer steins and gothic dragons. The Department 56 New England Village collection stems back to childhood years and reflects decades of memories. The New England Currier and Ives inspired Christmas decor has significant meaning to us, and we look forward to sharing it with all. We welcome you into our home to enjoy the decorations and the spirit that mean Christmas to us.
5. 118 W. Jamestown Street, South Charleston (Boyer Residence)
Brad and Laura are happy to welcome you into their home for the WASSO Tour this year. Their Colonial Revival was built around 1906 and is located in South Charleston's Historic District. The home is recognizable from the street due to its semi-circular windows in the gable peaks and Doric-columned porch. When it was purchased in 2011, Brad and Laura first fell in love with the staircase in the foyer. The unique design of the hardwood floors was a hidden treasure and not discovered until the renovation. The owners' appreciation of the past is shown throughout with many antiques and family heirlooms.
Eight Christmas trees are decorated around the home and light up the entire house at night. Doorways are draped in garland, and many beloved Christmas decorations and ornaments are displayed, creating a nostalgic and cozy Christmas feeling. Brad, Laura, and their three daughters love the tradition of decorating for Christmas together. It is truly the best time of year, and they wish you all a wonderful holiday season!
6. 17 S. Chillicothe Street – Village Chic Boutique (Saturday only)
Village Chic's Victorian storefront was constructed in 1858. In the coming years, successive owners ran a butcher shop, a grocery, a heating and plumbing business, and a hobby store. In 2017, Jennifer McKee and her daughter Karman Ogden purchased the historic building to house Village Chic Boutique and its associated coffee shop, Village Cup. The storefront underwent a thoughtful renovation, while vintage details like wood floors, brickwork, and original ceiling beams were tastefully preserved.
The coffee shop and boutique proved a perfect blend. The purchase of next-door storefronts in 2018 and 2019 allowed the coffee shop to expand and Village Chic to move into its own gallery with an ever-changing collection of fashion and décor items. Many are handmade by local artisans including jewelers, artists, furniture painters, metalworkers, farmers, bakers, and authors. A community room provides a venue for events and art classes. Participants learn to craft wreaths, paint barn quilts, solder stained glass, and express their creativity in many other ways.
Whether you're a foodie in search of a bite to eat, a creative type looking for inspiration, a homemaker hunting the perfect décor, or a hard worker in need of caffeine, we invite you to make this space part of your own history! Stop in Saturday before 4 o'clock and show us your Holiday Homes Tour ticket for $1.00 off on a hot or cold drink.
7. 35 S. Chillicothe Street – South Charleston Opera House
The Town Hall in South Charleston, designed and built by Edward Edwards in 1878-79, is a public building from the Victorian era with many original features. Two sets of original carved solid slab doors open to separate foyers. The north doors lead to the village offices, while the south doors provide a formal entrance to the Community Room with a distinctive radiating inlaid pattern in the original wood floor.
A towering cantilevered stairway in each foyer leads to the second-floor lobby and
fully restored Opera House. The south stairway has a stair lift for anyone not desiring to climb 22 steps.
The Opera House acoustics are phenomenal. This venue hosts concerts, plays, weddings, bridal showers, and the Southeastern High School Senior Prom. The annual "Christmas in the Opera House" concert was held on December 4; the next event is the New Year's Eve Grand Ball.
A balcony, accessible by a short stairway at each end of the lobby, shows the grandeur from a different angle and provides an opportunity for beautiful pictures.
The entire building is beautifully decorated for the Christmas season.
